Public Hearing: Hartford Young Professionals Taskforce

Notice is a bit short, but information about this hearing was just sent to liveinhartford:

Young Professionals Hartford's Young Professionals Taskforce will hold a public hearing to give other young professionals the opportunity to express what they believe Hartford needs to do to attract and retain its young workforce. The hearing will be held at 6 p.m., June 24, 2008, in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 500 Main Street, Hartford.

The e-mail that was forwarded to liveinhartford (courtesy of Emily) is, thankfully, much more energetic than the official announcement:

Hi all,

Help me out!  Come to a meeting at City Hall in Hartford this Tuesday from 6 - 7:30 pm.  Here's why:

I'm on a task force charged with identifying tangible ways to improve the city of Hartford for young professionals.  We've decided to hold a public hearing this Tuesday at 6 pm at Hartford City Hall to listen to whatever young professionals have to say about the city--whether they live here or work here or live and work in the burbs and wouldn't think of coming into town.  We want to know why.

I regret that this hasn't been well publicized and apologize further for the short notice.  But I'd very much appreciate it if you'd take the time to come out and offer your two cents.  We'll have people speak for 3 or 4 minutes or so about whatever they have to say about Hartford.  We think this will be a great opportunity to document what folks are thinking.  At the end of this process (6 months from now) the Task Force will issue a report to the city (and share it with the state) about how to attract and retain talented young people in Hartford.

Is this task force associated with HYPE (Hartford Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs)? A quick Web search didn't come up with anything called Young Professionals Task Force. If anyone has more info, let me know!

Sounds like it could be an interesting hearing. I think I'm on the cusp of "young" and "less young" but I'd like to hear what people have to say. (Bonus: I can hand out little pieces of paper with the blog address on them!)

Maybe I'll see you there?

Julie
