EmGee Returns!
Hello, bloggie peeps! So nice to write to you again. I was pulled away on very short notice for work just before my birthday last month (sniff, sniff) and had to spend over three weeks living and working out of a hotel in downtown Manhattan. Across from the WTC site. No, it doesn't get more depressing than that.
Being in New York for several weeks made me appreciate Hartford even more. As I told Julie, I could never live in NYC. It's too tall.
I still feel like I'm getting re-acquainted with Hartford since returning about 10 days ago. I've missed out on a bunch of downtown things, including the appearance of the Knox Parks flowering planters (yay!), the completion of one side of the sidewalk on Asylum between Main and Trumbull, the opening of a Moe's in my building (workers, rejoice), the opening of a new wine bar on Main Street, the commencement of Monday night movies at City Steam (organized by a fellow old Sage Allen building resident), the Black-Eyed & Blues Fest, violence that closed down The Mansion, budget votes, the opening of the CT Science Center... I'm sure there's more that I don't even know I missed. Feel free to fill me in on anything and everything that happened between May 28 and June 19.
And I should have some good house-hunting in Hartford news in the next few days. Keep your fingers crossed that the inspection goes well!

Welcome back!
NYC is very tall. That's the best way to describe it.
If you want to visit the science center, let me know

I DEFINITELY want to visit the science center. I should just become a member so I can go and play with nerdy science stuff whenever I want. Blogger field trip?
Also, the science center looks so pretty at night. Anyone know if it'll be open during the fireworks next week? Might be the perfect place to watch them.

The website does not indicate that it will be open any later than 5pm, but maybe some peer pressure could change that. The view would be spectacular from there.

Oh so nice to have this spot for pleasant and practical talk of Hartford.
Other things to catch up on:
just what is iQuilt?
Yikes, the P.O. at Old State House Square is on short list for possible closing - that doesn't sound very visitor friendly, or downtown resident friendly, or Capital City friendly . . .

This counts as a non sequiter (sp?) - I had just been meaning to let folks know:
NEW NEIGHBORHOOD BRANCH HOURS
The Library is pleased to announce that, due to the City’s decision to reduce the Library’s budget cut for the new fiscal year, we are able to increase hours at the neighborhood branches. Effective June 29, 2009 public service hours for each of the neighborhood branches will be Monday through Thursday, 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., Fridays, 12:30 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.. In addition, each branch will have one late night when it will be open 12:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m.:
Mondays: Mark Twain & Park
Tuesdays: Blue Hills & Goodwin
Wednesdays: Barbour, Dwight, & Ropkins
Thursdays: Albany & Camp Field
And the Albany, Barbour, Camp Field, Goodwin, & Mark Twain branches will be open on Saturdays from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m..
This way adults get some library time before kids get out of school, of course kids aren't IN school right now but come Sept you'll be happy!

I'm eagerly awaiting a post all about EmGee becoming a proud homeowner in Hartford
I'm also wondering if we can do a Second Annual Critical Splash.

You'll have to wait a little longer, Kerri, but I'm almost there!
And I love the Second Annual idea--I missed the first one.
